Cops tighten noose around Srinivasan

TNN | Jun 25, 2011, 01.57am IST

Fight over Sathya Sai Baba's legacy deepens
PUTTAPARTHI: With police tightening the noose on the high-profile members of Sathya Sai Central Trust in the money trail case, one of the members V Srinivasan has sought more time from the Anantapur district police authorities to reply to the summons served by them. Srinivasan is likely to be present before district SP Shahnawaz Qasim in Anantapur on June 27.  Srinivasan was given a deadline of 72 hours to attend before the cops but he expressed his inability as he was attending to some personal works. His personal assistant Venkatesh was questioned by the investigation team in Penugonda on Friday, while cops are yet to trace Sadashiv, a driver close to Sohan Shetty, who was arrested earlier in connection with the case along with two others.
Another member and Sai Baba's nephew R J Rathnakar, who was also served the summons, is likely to meet the SP on Saturday. Local CI Madhubhushan meanwhile, met Trust secretary K Chakravarthi in Prasanthi Nilayam and sought the details on the movement of vehicles entering and existing from Sai Baba's abode ever since the Yajur Mandir inventory was made. Sources said the cops also sought particulars of the Trust's financial transactions and the money spent on various programmes. Asked about the rumours that he had also been served a legal notice, Chakravarthi told newsmen that he didn't receive any notice.
In a related development, Baba's caregiver Satyajit broke his silence on Friday two months after Baba's death. He refused to be drawn into the controversies surrounding the Trust matters and its financial dealings. "I have no connection with the Trust. I have no say either. My only aim was to serve Baba till my last breath," he said when newsmen caught up with him inside Prasanthi Nilayam.
Refuting the charges that he had neglected Baba's health before he was admitted to the super-speciality hospital on March 28, Satyajit said: "My conscience is clear. I have served my lord to the best of my abilities and I would continue to serve him at his maha samadhi. I have no other ambition." To further queries, he said his only aim is take forward the Vidya Vahini project and see that it is implemented for the poor children in all the Sathya Sai schools.
Sai Baba's close relative Ganapathi Raju said the time has come for the Trust members to clear the air on the cash seizure and alleged financial irregularities. "Devotees are hurt as Baba's name is being besmirched. The Trust cannot absolve itself as serious charges have been levelled against its members," he said.
Baba's long-time devotee and translator of his speeches, Professor Anil Kumar, has also said the Trust owes an answer to the people of the town and lakhs of devotees. "This is a passing phase. But the Trust has come under the scanner. So, it's the duty of the senior Trust members to clarify all the doubts pertaining to the alleged shifting of money from Yajur Mandir," he observed.
Meanwhile, prominent citizens, builders, realtors, political parties leaders and devotees are taking out a huge rally in the town on Saturday to give a call to cleanse Prasanthi Nilayam and save all the properties of Sai Baba. "We are all upset and Baba's properties must be safeguarded at any cost. We will sensitise the people on the need to protect the image of Puttaparthi also," builder Sai Krishna told TOI.

Walls of Jericho are tumbling down. I have nothing against Sri Sathya Sai Baba. He did what others should have done. Bring some help to the poor, hungry and dehumanized sections of Hindus under his wings. He was not a magician. He was not a guru, as the term indicates a higher attainment in a traditional 'guru parampara.' Guru tradition. He kept his his mission to bring humanity to the Hindu religion. Humanity and Hindutva don't mix. Hindutva defends such fake Bhagwans, fake Sanyasis, sex gurus, con artists, like Baba Ramdev. Hindutva vigorously defends Hindu terrorism, mass mayhem, murders, massacres of Narendra Modi variety. Hindutva denies all the truth that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, was a terrorist. Savarkar founded a secret Hindu, oops, Brahmin outfit, 'Navabharat' in a house, located in "TiLbhadeshvar Galli, Nashik," my home town. It still exists and has ABVP offices. Vinayak, at a young age, was residing with his uncle to attend High School called, New English School, on "Hattikhana Road," near Red Cross Hospital and "Bhangi Colony." The school building is gone but other two institutions exist. Local Marathi newspaper, "Gavkari" Press building is approximately located where that High School was. I was present at a formal function to close Savarkar's Terrorist organization, Navabharat at "PimpaL Par on Dahi Pool." So were other Brahmin boys of RSS. Savarkar wanted a suitable closure to his terrorist past. His exact words, "We have freedom now."...and I am Sid Harth

There is a saying in English that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. In India money corrupts and absolute money corrupts absolutely. It is amazing that lakhs of rupees in cash wee being taken out of the safes of the Trust and trust members are not forthcoming as to where the money was going and who had authorised its being taken away. People offer money in the temples and before their religious teachers in good faith hoping it wouldbe used for a noble cause, for the betterment of the not-so-fortunate sections of society particularly for their health and education as has been done by Sat Sai Trust when Sat Sai was alive. But now money was being taken away. What for? There must be an answer to it as after all it is the devotees' money and they have a right to know about the 'taking away'. The cops should pursue the case to its logical end and not spare those who were acting against the rules with a view to enrich- ing thmselves.

most of what i have read so far appears more to be based conjectures and not necessarily on facts, especially during the last few days. i feel that if there is an investigation to be done, then the investigators are required to show some ingenuity in their detective work and no carried away by such speculations. when one reads some of the reports that are appearing in the newspapers, it saddens particularly the devotees of Sairam. It also gives the impression that people who are not within the fold of the devotees are the ones who are keen to create a sensation. we have witnessed this on several occasions in the past also.

Before the allegation of 35 lakh being squirelled away, there was the allegation of 10 crore caught red handed, but it was later realised that that 10 cr. incident which was hyped by the media for 2 days never took place, and the media gave it a quiet burial.A thorough investigation by police should be done and if found guilty must be punished and no action should be taken based on the media reports alone.

Whenever it is related to Hindu based organizations media and intelligentsia is overenthusiastic in their reactions.Because no Hindu will retaliate. But if they touch any Semitic religions, who are well organized, they will have to bite dust.Hindus will never learn from the experiences.

Hindus have cowardice embedded in their DNA, they just cannot help themselves. In another country your Sai Baba would have been doing a life sentence for child molestation, corruption, rackeetering, black money, etc.

Amir Khan, your name and place may be real or fictious...whatever, please avoid these type of comments. Allah, Jesus and Ram or any other word for Almighty are one and the same. Sri Sathya Sai stands for love, universal brotherhood and service to the society. If you visit the abode of Puttaparthi, you can realise that. Sai Ram.

Looks like you are completely ignorant and being swayed by propganda. Khadija and all but one wives of Mohammed were widows. Mohammed gave decent life to these widows who happened to be older than Mohammed. This was the time Indian woment were subjected to sati. Aisha was daughter of his disciple who happened to carry the message forward in then completely barbarbaric Arabia. This was the man who banned killing of infant girls which continues in India today. Let us not get too barbaric here.

The whole records of the Trust should have been sealed the moment Sai Baba died. The Trust have been given a lot of time to smudge all records. How much of the trust money have been transferred to personal accounts cannot be known now. Now not only the Trust accounts but the accounts of all Trustees and their other business venture accounts should be inspected by independent auditors to see whether money have been siphoned off. All such records should be sealed immediately and access to them by the Trust members denied.

I think this is an agenda by the Congress govt to control the billions of money the trust holds...unfortunately Baba didnt see future of his legacy after his samadhi or maybe that was his intention that all the trust setup crumbles due to their greed....but sad thing is that it lands into the pockets of Con members who definitely dont deserve it....funny irony....
